‎Stan Freeman Plays 30 All-Time Hits [1957]

Harmony HL 7067

Although he only released a handful of recordings of his own, Stan Freeman was a near-omnipresent fixture on the New York jazz scene as a soloist, accompanist, and session musician for much of the 1950's and early '60s. Additionally, he attracted attention as a composer, comic writer, and raconteur, and also served as an arranger from the 1960s thru the 1980s for Marlene Dietrich and Michael Feinstein. And for a time in the early 1950s, he helped spearhead a momentary and unexpected revival of the harpsichord as a popular instrument.

Arthur Fiedler Conducting The Boston Pops Orchestra Music For A Summer Night [1955]

RCA Victor Red Seal LM-1910

"This night is the work of a sorcerer. We hear the music again and are glad; the clouds disappear, the sky lightens, the moon rises higher, and long after the music has ceased it is still playing within us, making of this night one which will forever be ours - that  wonderful night when the world stood still." DCP International ‎DCS 6806

Composer Michel Legrand's music, with its plaintive love theme, is exquisite. Don Costa's interpretation is excellent, as are his interpretations of the remaining themes on side two.
