In April 1956, Les Phillips, Cliff Nolder, and Warren Fletcher formed a new independent record label, Electrone Records.  Electrone's premier record, Intimate Music, brought together the foursome of Barclay Allen; piano, Stan Black; guitar, Merle Mahone; drums and Sid Fridkin; bass.

Intimate Music also heard the debut of the Electrone Piano.  An electronic device was used to give the piano its unusual sound.
